Dipstick

I have a question about my engine. I pulled the dipstick out when I was looking at my oil level and found that the part number on it started with D7 or D8. Now, wouldn't that mean that it would be of the year 77 or 78? My truck is a '69 F-250 with a 360 in it that I am fairly sure is original. Is this the right dipstick and if it isn't, will my oil reading be affected?

Yes...D7 or D8 would be 77 or 78. The 360 wasn't an option in the 77s or 78s, therefore, that dipstick certainly isn't meant for your 69 with the 360. However, I can't say for sure whether or not that means it will or won't read accurately. I suppose it's possbile that the dipstick for an M motor is the same and that's why somebody had it in there, but somehow I doubt it. The correct part number should definately start with a C. Hope this helps.
