'93 Problems
I have a '93 Explorer. The other day my son was driving it home from school, and it started running like crap. A couple of days later I figured I'd take it down to Autozone and get the codes read as the light was on. It starts just fine, but after it warms up, it basically won't run. I got about 3 miles form home and it died on me. It would start, but would not go above a rough idle when stepping on the accelerator. I nursed it to where it was reving, but had a bad miss at higher RPMs. I had my son come get me. Went and bought a code reader. Got abck and was able to drive it home just fine. Something is happeneing when it warms up. I can't get the code reader to read anything (will be taking it back). Any ideas? Would O2 sensors make it act like this?

Couple of things to try... check the vacuum lines on the vacuum tree on the back of the valve cover on the drivers side. Clean the IAC valve. There are lots of posts on this forum for this. Could also be a clogged cat converter. You really need to pull the codes. When you used the reader, did you try both the KOEO and KOER tests? EECIV readers are pretty dependable. Is that what you bought?

Yes, it is an EECIV Reader, came with a pretty thick manual. I have only tried the KOEO tests. The first time I tried it. It seemed to work, but I don't think the tests completed (according to the manual). There is a little square that flashes as it records codes, then the box is supposed to go away when it's done. The box did not go away, and the only code on it was 159 (I think), that said the defroster was on. Turned that off, and since then it has never "finished". I get an initial click, then it gets stuck when the engine is making a humming noise.
I treied cleaning the connections and grounding the single connection like the manual states to no avail. I'm going to take the thing back.
