Once you've had diesel you'll never go back to gas. Can't be beat in power AND economy. In the long run diesel is the best.Actually in any run . Good luck!

You are asking this question in this diesel forum? What answers are you expecting! LOL So far I love the diesel I purchased a couple months ago and though the maintenance is a bit more, if you shop around you can get good deals on the various filters. If you keep your maintenance up these engines will go a LONG time which will save you money by not having to by another gasser down the road. Once you buy it you can come back here and try and find the cure for you PMS!
I have friends with the V10 and gas mileage consists of the distance between each gas station. While pulling I have seen him get 3-5 MPG ! He does have some good torque, but he want's a diesel now for the gas mileage for everyday driving and towing. I can't wait to install my chip from Jody and then take him for a drive to show him what a diesel can do!!
My buddy with an 03 Excursion V-10 averages 11 mpg, but can get as much as 16 if he baby's it on the freeway. I pretty much always get 17, city or highway doesn't really matter.
At 19,600 combined gross weight I get 9-11 mpg, but never less than 16 empty.
My opinion mirrors that of PSNut....I really have no need for a gas engine for any reason. I really don't care if maintenance or fuel is more expensive.....it is worth it.
Here is something most people don't think about - if 95% of your trips are just a few miles, and then you shut it down, a diesel truck probably isn't your best choice.
It takes mine a good 10 miles just to warm up - which is one reason why it gets dismal mileage in town (about 15mpg - less if my wife drives it), but much better on long trips (20 to 21).
when i had my psd (99 f-250) i got 16 around town and 19 highway. all the power you could ever need. Gas just cant compete with diesel. hands down the psd over the gas craper anyday. but alas my psd is gone and now im down to my ranger.
Oh, too true. But I wasn't actually referring to mileage - I wasn't clear enough.
It is not good for a gas engine to make those short runs, but it is terrible for a diesel. It really accelerates wear.
That is also true.....but really, if you live and work in the city and are so close to everything that the majority of your uses for a vehicle consist of just a few minutes at a time....why would you need a vehicle at all...Get a bike, or a Geo metro. Anything but a full sized truck.

Yes. That is the point.
On the other hand, I've wanted a diesel ever since I drove my first Cat-powered truck. I finally have one, and not even $3.40 per gallon can convince me to sell it - especially since fuel costs are LESS than they were with my 4-cylinder gasser 4x4 trucks of the past.
