greetings to all forum members, this is my first post.
i have a 79 F250 supercab 4x2 with a 460. the automatic transmission doesn't want to shift into 3rd and when it does, it slips back to 2nd and then back and forth repeatedly. i noticed the rear tranny mount bolts were gone and a bad splice job someone did on the wires leading away from the side. i replaced the bolts and secured the wires but this did not help.
I am assuming that your truck has a c6. I would check the kickdown linkage for proper adjustment and inspect the vacuum line running from the rear of the intake manifold area to the transmission on the right side. My kickdown lever was messed up after installing an aftermarket carb and not using the correct adapter for the kickdown. When the correct adapter was installed it made all the difference in the world.

yeah, i checked out that vacuum line and it's fine and there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of room for adjustment on that kickdown lever. it was working fine before. it seems to me that maybe after losing those tranny bolts, everything's out whack... it doesn't even look centered properly. i'll try to take some pictues.
Can't help with the tranny problem, just wanted to say NICE LOOKING TRUCK!
thanks. the photos are a bit deceptive. the paint is far from perfect. i was trying to sell it for $1500 but now with this tranny problem, i'm screwed. here's some more pic's if you want to check it out: http://s32.photobucket.com/albums/d2...20FORD%20F250/
check that the kick down rod has free travel from both up top at the carb and down at the trans. it sounds like the kick down is stuck in full throttle mode.
i bought a truck that did the same thing for my nephew. the guy said the trans went bad after he got done doing a full tuneup on it .i test drove it and paid $400 for it. then i opened the hood and took the kick down rod out of the spark plug wires that were holding it in a wide open throttle position, and drove it home that was 2 years ago, and he is still driving the heck out of it. the guy i bought it from looked and felt like the worlds biggest azz when i took the new wires off the rod.
