Just got back from a test ride after I reinforced the floor board so my clutch master cylinder had support to work correctley. I fabed up a brace with two right angles, used the steering column mounting bolt for one right angle, used screws to the dog house for the other angle, bent the floor up as much as possible, used JB weld to take the gap out from under the bracket to floor. I think it's going to last a while. Looks good. Because I did not know where the height of the floor should be and no adjustment built into this design, I added adjustment to the rod that pushs the master cylinder. I went to the hardware store and bought two 3/16-18 couplings and welded them together end to end. I cut the rod in half and cut 1/2 more out of the middle. Then I threaded both ends of the rod and used jam nuts to lock the adjustment in place. Works great! I can get in reverse much e-zer. I might have a little fine tuning but at least I can adjust it now.
Opps! Make that 3/8-16 NC. The rod was the correct size to thread without machining. Like Ford thought someone might resort to this fix. I don't know but I think Ford might have made differnt length rods. Sorry about the oops. Got in a rush. Used the van yesterday to haul my dirt bike up in the woods and what a pleasure to be able to change gears without grinding gears and jamming the tree shifter. And no more noise from my throw out bearing.
