I have a 98 Expedition that all at once came down with a P0500 code, a P1506 code. A 5-2 blinking air bag code. A blinking TCS light and the speedometer does not move at all. The overhead console does not indicate any instant miles per gallon. The speed control does not work. Any takers on what this points to?
As a matter of fact it has been raining so much that I stopped troubleshooting untill I could open things up without flooding the inside of the truck. I was trying to figure out what the common point was between the air bag system and the other problems I have. The schmatic I have isn't real clear in that area. I'll look at the GEM today and see if water has is the issue. I was also wondering if the problem could be a water issue in the PCM / air bag module area. Time to pull out the tarp.
I'm going to have the windshield pulled in the next few days. Checked it this morning and its wet all around the GEM. After looking thru the different forums on this topic there looked to be a good discription on pulling the GEM out and drying the connectors to the GEM and fuse box. I just need mother nature to give me a break.
Replaced the windshield. Dried everything out. Everything works but I still have the airbag light. 5-2 code. The OBD-11 tester I have resets MIL codes but not airbag codes. It seems that resetting the airbag light is the search for the holly grail. This feels to much like a Monty Python movie.
Interesting, I didn't know that airbag diagnostics were apart from the PCM. Another way to reset codes is to disconnect the battery for a few moments. It might be worth a try.
Interesting, I didn't know that airbag diagnostics were apart from the PCM...
Well, sort of, they are, and they aren't.... Confused????
The supplementary (and some optional) systems in these vehicles (ABS, SRS, EATC, GEM, HEC, etc) all communicate with the PCM via the SCP network.
All of these are accessed via the PCM by a scan tool. Unfortunately for most scan tool owners, their tool does not have the capability to accesse these additional systems. Scan tools with this capability are typically above the resources of most DIYers and many shops. Prices begin around $1,000 US.
