ABS Pump

My abs light has been coming on and off randomly for a couple of weeks now...My dad who is a mechanic at the local ford dealership finally got it in to run the code and he said it wasnt ne of the censors but the pump. I found one at a local junkyard for $65. As i dont know much about these things but where is the pump located and how hard is it gonna be to replace...THANKS

What trouble code number did he retrieve from the computer that caused him to suspect the ABS motor????

Well the year, model, engine, 2 or 4 wheel ABS would be helpful also.

Not doubting your Dads call, but just wondering & trying to cover all the possibilities, have you also been having problems with other things, like not being able to set the cruise control, or having it drop out unexpectedly, the speedometer jumping around, auto tranny gear shifting acting up?????

If so, it might be the speed sensor, located atop the rear differential.

Or maybe a acting up or dirty wheel sensor, or low master cylinder fluid level.

The reason I'm asking all these other questions is, it's gonna be a bear to replace the ABS motor & bleed all the air from the system, so you want to make sure this really is the root cause of your problem BEFORE you open pandoras box!!!!! LOL

You might have to take it in & have a vacuum purge done, to get all the air out of the ABS motor, it can be a pain to bleed.

I'd opt for a good service publication, or if you've never done this before, maybe consider having it professionally done, or at least get professional help.

Maybe offer your Dad a case of his favorite beverage, or take him on a fishing trip, or some other irresistible bribe!!!!! LOL

Let us know how it goes!!!
