Well, i tried a search didnt find much... i was wondering, i plan on trading off my 00 for an 04 or newer, which i plan to have the dealer install a lift and prolly 31-33s, as far as gearing changes on a 4x4 model do i need to do both the front and the rear? or can i just do the rear? might sound like a stupid question but the only time its in 4x4 is when its snowing or im stuck in the mud in the fieldsomewhere.... so what difference would it make if the fronts were 3.55s and the rears were 4.10s? i realize driving on dry pavement would be really bad for this in 4x4.... but is that all? what does it run typically to have the rearend done? sorry for all the questions.... im kinda undecided here..
YES bud...you will need to do both, otherwise they will be working against each other and, self destruct...pretty much!!! And prices may vary depending where you live etc, your looking about $1500 here in Indy to do both front and rear...which you must have!
what have you guys found as the best prices on gear sets? I'm gonna do the gear swap myself when i put in my detroits but i am still shopping for the front diff.
FordTruckGuyStx...I havent really priced them in quite awhile. If I remembered right when I checked around at a local performance shop here in Indy it was about $1500 for gears and the install. I was thinking 50/50 for the parts and labor. But not sure on brand etc, I just cant remember, sorry!
I put 4.56s in mine and the gears with master install kits front and rear were $750. The install at a local shop plus synthetic gear oil was about $850
