The truck is a 1979 F100, w/ a 302 and motocraft carb. The truck has been sitting for the past 2 years, and I just got it running last night ( bought from a friends dad )
Anyways, Boom, fired up, let it run for a bit, circulate fluids blah blah blah, put it in reverse, dont apply the gas, just kind of let it roll on its own, which it did fine. Put it in D, tapped the gas, then it hesitated then died.
Now, is this a sign of sticky floats, linkage need cleaning or what ? Im not a Ford guy, but I love this truck already, and I maybe drove it 10 minutes last night
Possibly a bad accelerator pump diaphragm. Look in the top of the carb while giving it throttle and see if you get 2 good strong streams of fuel squirting out the accerator pump nozzles. Look underneath the front of the carb to make sure there's no gas dripping on the manifold when the throttle is applied, this sometimes happens. Carb probably needs a rebuild ayway, the gaskets and seals tend to dry up and crack and harden when it's been sitting, and often goo will form inside and plug things up.
