went and talked to my parts man this morning about oil pumps. apparently they make 3 types, regular, high volume, and high pressure.
he knows the problem i've been having and when he found out that i had replaced the oil pump and still had problems he suggested replacing the mains instead of trying anouther oil pump. i explained that this was my daily driver and i had to have it, that i couldn't drop the pan then wait a day or two untill i got in the correct mains in. he told me he would order from standard up through the largest he could get. then all i would need to do is plasti guage mine and then come and see him and he would help me decide on which ones to install. sure they cost a little more than what i would pay for them else where, but you sure don't get service like that through a chain autoparts store. thank god for the mom and pop stores where your not just a customer, your a friend!
Hi, I have done this before and it is not fun. Take your time and replace the rear main seal also. You might also want to replace the rod bearings; they are easier. Good luck
Ditto on the mom and pop stores. I still go to Yelm National and I am the third generation to go there. I now have a 45 min. drive to get there but they treat me great. I put about 200 miles ayear on my 72. I put a starter in it about 2 years ago and it just died. When I told them about it (I went in to get a new one) they handed me the new starter and said "next time your in town drop off the bad one". Ever seen Schmucks do that? I never have.
