Hello, I recently bought my 1975 F250 after having owned a 1979 F150 a few years back. (Don't know why I ever got rid of it) I seem to have only two locations in my transfer case. Dropped all the way forward, putting it into Nuetral and pulled back (not sure to which point) although it seems to put it into 2wd. I am not sure if this means that I need a new case or a rebuild or just a simple fix. The 79 had a simular problem but not as bad. It just took a few minutes to find the spot. Thank you for any help.
if it is a part time t case it is a 205 and the full time case is a 203. on my 205 in my 79' all the way foward is 4 low one click back is nuetral another click back is 2 Hi and all the way back is 4 hi. try putting the trans in nuetral and seeing if it shifts better and also check to see if you t case is full because when mine gets low it won't shift into or out of low.
I had a Dana 21 transfer case, it had 2hi, neutral and 4hi, that was it. It was easier to disengage and engage when the truck was rolling slowly either in reverse or forward.
Sometimes the bushing on the pivot point on transfer case shifter wear out, replacing with new bushing and appling a water proofing type grease will help the shifting.
