i bought a used 99 ford ranger. it didn't come with an owners manual or a key for the spare tire winch. this particular truck has a cylinder lock in the hole where you access the spare tire winch. the lock is labelled F011. the local ford dealer didn't seem to have a way to cross reference this key. i am not even sure it is a factory lock. anybody have any recommendations for a new key or do i just drill out the lock so i can crank down the spare tire? any help would be appreciated.
Well maybe try another dealer, local lock smith, salvage yard, or "E-Bay" on the net.
Have you looked behind the jack housing/cover, sometimes folks put the key in there, so it won't get lost, mine is still in the glove box though!!!!
You can download a copy of the manual from the Motorcraft web site, but I believe you'll have to sign up/register to get into their "Technical" section so you can do a owners manual down load. I tried to post a link to it last week, but the link timed out after a short period & became unusable.
when i bought the truck it was missing the jack, owners manual and only had one ignition key. frankly i didn't notice there was a lock on the tire winch until i had a flat. thanks for the info... i'll start with a locksmith, then maybe try another dealer.
I had the same problem when I bought my '99 used. I went to a local Ford dealer and bought a key blank for $3.50. Then I went to a locksmith and gave him the number off of the bezel around the lock on the truck. he looked up the number on his computer, keyed it into the compuiterized key cutter, inserted the blank and "walla" a new key. Key blank = $3.50, Locksmith fee = $5.00 Total cost = $8.50. This was about 2 years ago. I think my dealer still has blanks (they are a long handled key blank). I am in central Illinois. I would be happy to buy one for you if you PM me. We could work it out and I could mail the blank to you. Check to see if there is a number around the outside of the lock on your truck (probably a 4 digit number). Good luck.

Well, no jack, no key, no manual = a salvage yard visit imo, but call first, to see if they have what you want.
Many folks find the manual in the glove box for free.
Probably not likely to find a spare tire key for your lock though.
But a Dealer should be able to order a blank & grind one for you, or a locksmith can with the lock cylinder number as johare did.
So it sounds like you'll get that one put to bed shortly.
That leaves the jack & manual to find at the salvage yard, not impossible, with some luck & a phone!!! Or just down load the manual from Motorcrafts web site.
The jack is something I've seen in a lot of wrecked vehicles...not too difficult to find. You could really get any one you wanted provided the vehicle was the size of or bigger than the Ranger.
As for the manuals, I find lots around here in the junkyards. I've also found keys under the seats, in those little key protectors in the bumper (I keep a spare under my bumper as well), and every now and then there's one somewhere REALLY obvious like the glovebox, ashtray, etc.
Manual and jack are easy finds around here though.
