I have an 04 6.0 TD. I recently had the turbo replaced because because of over boosting from a Banks tuner. The truck runs fine now and I haven't even turned on the Banks tuner since i've gotten it back.
My only concern is that since i've gotten it back with the new turbo it rarely makes that blow-off sound now when I let off the gas during hard acceleration. It used to always. I was told that that noise is a stock diverter valve that releases pressure form the turbo. Is this something I need to worry about?
VGT or Variable Geometry Turbo has no waste-gate to allow excessive boost to escape. The pressure from your old turbo would be heard escaping through the intake when you decreased the throttle.
I have to do more research on that stock diverter valve, never heard of it before. I would have said you were seeing an off throttle surge on the turbo when you let off the the throttle caused by the extra power from the chip which is really bad for the turbo and may have contributed to the failure.
Curious... has anyone else ever heard of the stock Divertor Valve?
