Hey this is a great forum and i thought i;d ask all you what i've been trying to find out for a while. I just sold my bronco cause the mpg were killing me now i wanna get somethin that gets around 15 in town at least, what do 7.3l psd get in that category(f250,excursion). also is it possible to get a 99 or 2000 psd for around 10,000 dollars. If not what other potential vehicle do u think would fit. I'm not trying to complain about mpg and am not gettin anythin like a civic or somethin i'm a ford guyt and would like to stay that route.
thanks
South - The BEST I have ever seen around town in my 2001 7.3 is 14.9 mpg. After I lifted the truck and put 37's on it I am getting around 10 mpg. After I re-gear the truck I hope to get some mpg's back. I've got the Egde Attitude which I think was "snake oil". No gains on power or mpg. I do not know what is out there for around 10K. Dave
I'm getting around 13.5 in town on my '06 250 (6L PSD). My previous truck was an '05 F-150 (5.4 Triton) and it only averaged around 15.5 in town. I don't push hard.

You certainly should be able to find a $10,000 SD with a 7.3L. Might have high mileage, but they last a good long time.
IMHO...I think you would be better off getting a F150 with either the 4.6L or 5.4L. Your mpg will depend on the gears the truck has. If you do not plan on towing or hauling heavy payloads, then I would recommend getting a higher gear ratio like the 3.55s or 3.73s. Those will give you pretty good mpg and get you in the 15-16mpg in the city.
Good luck...

i get 16-17 around town in my 7.3. it is a 2000 and i bought it for 10k. they are very hard to find for that price though. you might want to try looking for an old body style with a 7.3. the milage depends on the truck and driver. some 7.3s get 12 while others will get 17. and my truck has 200,000 miles on it. i know ill never go back to a gasser
