Code 14 is a PIP (Profile Ignition Pickup) circuit failure. This is the trigger for the spark in your truck (kind of like the points would be in an older vehicle). The computer is getting intermittant or no signal from the sensor which is inside the distributor UNDER the rotor. These sensors are inductive and can be "confused" by a strong magnetic presence near them or strong radio frequencies like an antenna wire run near the distributor. Before you worry about problems with this sensor, make certain that the ignition module connector is fully seated. The module is either mounted on the distributor (1986-91) or on the driver's side inner fender under the hood spring (1992-96). If the connector seems to be intact and the wiring looks undamaged move on to Code 62.

Code 62 is transmission-related. Make certain the wiring harness to the passenger side of the E4OD transmission is intact and undamaged. If all is well, there is a problem with the hydraulic pressure switch that controls the third-to-fourth gear shifting. If there is no apparent shift problem, try clearing the codes and starting again.

To clear the codes, disconnect the battery for about ten minutes and then reconnect and go for a drive for about a half hour (city AND highway). This will allow the ECM to "relearn" the engine and tranny parameters. When you are finished, check the codes again and see what you get. If either of the codes has returned, you will need to do some slightly more tedious testing of the components mentioned. Get back to us if the problem persists, we can talk you through the processes.
