Im gettin my dad's 1999 expedition 4.6l 4x4. The transmission has jsut recently started knocking accelerating around first and second gear and downshifting close to stopping. It has 163,000 miles on it. What should i expect? what should i do? save up and trade in and purchase used vehicle? fix problems and keep the expy?? with this many miles should i b ready for more problems to go wrong?? any feed back would b great thanks Gerry

in terms of being ready for more problems you need to consider how the truck has been maintained. did your pop take good care of it?

either way a truck with that many miles is most likely going to have some sort of issues coming up - but past care will determine their severity and amount.

Go have a complete inspection done on it, your dad should be all for this since he would sleep better knowing his son is driving around in a safe/reliable vehicle.

I'm sure your dad knows if he took proper care of it or not, if he didn't then you two should maybe look into trading it in and getting yourself something else.

Def have an experienced Mechanic look at it. 160,xxx is alot of miles, but it depends how hard they were driven and how well it was maintained. Another factor, is if they were "towing" miles.......that takes a heavy toll on a vehicle.

Hope this helps,
Scott
