Bought a 77 250 brand new. Was made in April. It was a Highboy.Dennis is right about the serial number cutoff. Anything after is called a Low boy. There was a definite difference in height. I put 36 GroundHawgs on stock suspension. Would rub a little on back of fender and steering box in rough use, but that's what it was for and that's why God invented the "Sawszall". Kept ol grey for 22 years then sold her a year before a divorce. Should've kept the truck and got rid of the hag. *****
Hi guys. Not new to the sight, but new to using it. I have a 1976 F250 4X2 that I am in the process of getting straight. Bought it for $400.00 and have already put about 5 times that much into it. Anyhoot this thing sits pretty high. Some people even ask if it is 4X4. I get conflicting stories on what to call it. What is it? I hate not knowing what I am talking about. I feel ignorant and everyone knows that knowledge is power.
alright fellas sry bout takin so long to come back....its seems, as i noticed as soon as i bought it, that i DO have a remote transfer case or as yall call it a divorced transfer case....and i also noticed that i have a 4 inch block in the rear...i was wondering if it came stock from the dealer in turn makin this a highboy, (whereas the lowby would be 4 inches shorter) or if some one put it in there. Which might i add the owner b4 mus have ben extremely lazy that he went backwards on himself...there wasnt enough thread on the u bolts so he put a 1/4 in plate between the block and the rear axle to take up som thread room which obviously made the pin in the block not seat correctly so my axle was all over the place....(have no fear it has been taken care of)...o and my VIN# IS F26HEY23009 thank you buck and mil1on..another thing i know im rambling....but i noticed alot of people look at me crazy when i say highboy and lowboy this is something people have NEVER heard of they're whole life....lol (its funny to see they're faces....
Okay this does not say if your's is a Hiboy or not but it's a 4x4 F250 with a 351M 2barrel made in Mahwah,NJ. I don't know what the y stands for but the other number's are for what # the truck is off the assembly line.
"High boy" only refers to these 1967 thru 1977.5 Ford F250 Trucks which are factory lifted trucks, and were not common with any other truck manufactures in these times. I had two High boys, one had the 9 or 11 rear leaf spring pack (2 1/2" wide, 1977) and the other hi boy has the 5 rear leaf spring pack (3" wide, 1975).
the HB goes from 1970 to 1977 In 1977 F250's were changed 6months into the year. Some were highboys and some were low boys; if transfer case & tranny are joined truck is Lowboy

read up on that link for your front axle info(dana44 heavy duty)
the rear axle is a dana 60
the front axle if it is a 79-77 is a dana 44HD with open knuckles disc brakes and 8 lug hubs to match the rear. Heavy Duty Dana 44 solid front axle from a 1976 Ford F250 4x4. This axle is the same for the years 1976 to 1977.5 on the F250 4x4 trucks. The major change is to open knuckle ball joints with disk brakes and 5-297x u-joint. This design was running a front leaf spring setup with 3" tubes and 1/2" walls.
the engine choices were:
300-4.9L
351M- 5.8L
360-5.9
390-6.4L
400-6.6L
460-7.5L
the transmission either were an automatic c6 pr a np435
the transferccase is a divorsed np205
the 1970-1977.5 f-250 trucks are indeed higher than and 77.5-79 truck whether that be a f150 f250 or f350. when FoMoCo changed the suspension design half way through the year in 1977 the did market the 1977 f250 HB as the highboy(HB).the highboy nick name was just a marketing thing in 1977 to get people to but their trucks.
the lift part that everyone is talking about is the truck is 4 inches higher than any of other fors trucks. it was not intened to be a "lift" of any sort. it was because the trucks had a biggger load rating and the added heiveir springs which lifted the truck aprox 4 inches(note" some truck have complete leave spring, and some have a "lift block)
wow marshall where in the heck did you get ALL that info from geeze ......thanks alot i guess mine is definitely a high boy.....now just to find an inexpensive lift and oh yea ill update u you on my project when i start workin on it....i just bought a 4 cylinder perkins diesel out of a new holland thats goin in the 250 real soon......
ok now you guys are gonna wonder about me....heres my deal i have a highboy right? well when they sell 4 in lifts for a high boy with blocks and ubolts...and i have 4 in blocks on my truck already stock...wuts the point of me buying the kit? or are they gonna add 4 inches onto my existing 4 inches that the high boy comes with.....which lift should i go for and who should i buy it from cuz it seems like these online lift kit places dont know $*** about lifting vehicles...just yea we sell that....http://www.4wheelonline.com/Categori...NavigationTree heres a link i was lookin at
If you go to Skyjacker which is where i bought a 4 inch lift for my 76 Hiboy and what i got was 4 Nitro's and 2 new front spring packs ,bushings ubolts but that was it.
