Assuming its like mine, remove the bolts at the “rag” joint down by the PS box and one bolt threw the clamp by the firewall. The bolt by the firewall needs to be removed, not just loosened, it is keyed into the column shaft. After the bolt is gone you may have to push a screwdriver into the crack of the top clamp to slightly spread it. Then just pull the shaft off and out.

if yours it like my 250, i didnt come with a rag joint....i had to use a pry bar and alot of sweat to get it off the steering box, as its a very tight fit over the splines

my new borgeson shaft isnt near as tough to remove, but that may be beause i have had it off a few times

Mine doesnt have a rag joint, which I mistakenly bought by the way. I was trying to use a pry bar down by the steering box but looking at the new steering box Im not even close to getting it off. I thought about unbolting the steering box and just sliding it off. Any ideas?

There should be a 11 mm or 7/16" bolt on the flange to loosen or remove.

There should also be 4 bolts where the column attaches to the under dash.

undo the bolts under the dash and pull the wheel up and back from inside to help get it off the splines. It really helps with two people, but its doable with one.

Steering Gear Box Removal

Center steering wheel and face front tires straight forward. wedge a chiesel side ways in the flange on the steering coupler. Spray some rust inhibiter on splines. Steering shaft should be loose and ready for removal.

Loosen and remove the big nut for pit man arm on power steering gear box. Use a pit man arm remover and remove the pit man arm and center link as a complete unit from the steering gear box. Loosen the Power steering hoses from power steering gear box, allow the old power steering fluid to drain into drain pan, from power steering (ps) pump and ps hoses. Use small sandwich bags and wire ties, to cover ps hose ends and from getting any dirt or debri in hoses. Then remove the bolts holding the power steering gear box and with both hands remove the old ps gear box.

Flush out old ps fluid from ps system

98cobra1064, Unbolt the steering coupler at the steering gear box, then wedge a chiesel in coupler slot. The use the suggestions on post #7 and Post #8 to remove the steering gear box. The steering column does not need to be removed.

BTW, that's a 12 point 11mm or 7/16" bolt on the flange.
