Don't have my books handy, so this is from memory:
The first string is the VIN. "F25Y" indicates a F250 4x2 with a 360 cid FE V8. The "L" is the code for the assembly plant, but I don't remember offhand which one is L. B33392 is the consecutive unit number, and would tell you approximately when it was built.
131 is the wheelbase (regular cab long bed). F254 is the body code. 06900 is the gross vehicle weight rating. 172 is the certified net horsepower, and 4000 is the rpm at which the horsepower figure is achieved.
The rest of the codes tell such things as the paint, trim, transmission, and rear axle. If someone doesn't beat me to it, I'll pull my books and look them up tomorrow.
Thanks for the info guys. It really helps alot. I believe the truck has the original engine in it, but someone added AC at some point. No complaints here. Can either of you tell me how to break down the build date from the B33392? Also any ideas on what the M81 trim code is. Thanks again.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 01-Jun-02 AT 02:06 PM (EST)]By that number, it was made in May 1967.
I can't seem them using the same Consecutive code letter "B" for two years in a row.
M = Is the interior Beige?
81-Body code = Conventional
I think it's a 67.
And if that turns out to be the case, that "Y" code for the engine makes it a 352 cu".
Have a look for yourself.

I pulled the dash pad off and the original interior paint was beige. The hood had the side emblems without the reflectors. The air cleaner did in fact have a faded 352 sticker under the grease and dirt. Someone told me that a 352 is a rare motor in these trucks, is this true? So how does that date code work? B stands for 67, but what about the 33392? When I bought the truck the guy said he thought it was a 68-69, but he was over 80 and his memory isn't that good any more. And of course he didn't have the title. Just got a bill of sale but that is all you need here in GA. Thanks again.
Thom, just had a chance to look at your site and figured out the date code. Thanks for your help, your site will be a huge help. Will register there soon.
My bad Dennis . Thank you as well. Think I may restore this one all the way. It is 90% complete, looks to be the original motor and trans, and I now have a donor 70 truck that was in a wreck. Now I just need some time and money. Thanks to both of you.
