I've had experience herding people on bulletin boards, I ran a 3-line dialin setup for about 5 years back in the early 90's. Before that I wrote (after pirating) a bulletin board type system on DEC PDP-10's in my high school days. That's pre-1983.

Nope! DEC got away from punch cards pretty early. It was IBM that wouldn't give up the ghost, going so far as to keep the 80-column punch card data format for terminals (3270), etc.
