I am currently out of town in my '01 F250 super duty 7.3L 4x4 manuual trans. When I got in tonight to go back to where I am staying after eating diner there was a warning chime that sounded like it was coming from the computer (just above the parking brake) the chime is distinctly diferent from any other warning chime, like the key in the ignition or lights on, no seat belt sort of stuff. This sound is coming from a diferent location and has a diferent tone. The chime sounds about once every second for five seconds with a five second pause and repeats for five cycles and then stops for a few seconds and then repeats for a total of three times. the chime is then silent. if I turn the key off for any length of time it starts all over.
I have a medium performance chip and 139,000 miles, I've had the chip for about 138,000 mi. I tried starting with and with out the chip with no diference.
Two questions, the obvious first one is: Has any one had this happen and what is it?
The other question is: If I disconect the battery will it erase any thrown code so my mechanic at home will not know what happened?
It sounds like the airbag light bulb on the dash is out. Turn the key on and watch to see if the air bag light comes on. When this bulb burns out the computer will repeat a five chime warning until repaired.
