I've read almost every thread on this issue...went through 2 cases of High Life doing it...and have now I've reached the deciding point...to pull or no to pull?!? I live in California and it was bought in California. I believe my CEL light will come on and know to unhook the battery if there is ever an issue to clear the code if I don't have a chip/tuner on to clear them for me but am wondering if there will even be any gains if I do pull it. I have a '06 F250 SD CC 4x4 with Cool Duals on and no other mods...yet!!!! Thanks for the input!!
As most folks around here know, I am a huge advocate of disabling the EGR Valve...on '03 / '04 model years.
The gain by disabling the WART is not as attractive on the newer models as the strategy has changed and the WART keeps it's mouth closed...except when absolutely needed. In addition, they have improved the overall design...in theory. Thereby, having less a negative impact on down stream components.
If I had an '06 6.0 I would likely leave the little bugger alone until it gave me a reason to cut the cord. Especially in CA.
I'm right with Keith (KW5413) on this and I live in CA. It's not worth disconnecting on the 05/06 PSD's, IMHO. It just does not make a performance difference like on the 03/04 PSD's. Add Diesel Kleen or Stanadyne to the tank at each fill-up from a hi-volume station and 'clear it's throat' on a regular basis and you'll have no EGR related issues.
I just disconnected it yesterday, 06 F350, started it drove it shut it off, started it again CEL on, codes p0403 & p0405. I have read others on the site say same thing about CEL. Someone at Ford has read about our EGR disconnects and re-programmed the CEL to come on. Darn it! Michael
Don't the PSD's come w/a 5/100 warranty? Aren't you going to risk that if you puposely disconnect a critical engine component? Not worth it IMO. Keep it stock and you have less issues in getting Ford to pay for any future repairs.
Why do it and risk screwing up the engine and give Ford a reason to void your engine warranty? Are you really going to get that much better performance or reliability to risk it?
