First of all let me thank you guys for your help (Especially PLC.7.3) I followed your directions to the letter and got it running right away. Now i have a loud hammering noise we have traced to a loose rocker arm, felt of it when engine turns over and barely any movement. I hope it is a collapsed lifter. Can you give me directions on replacement and is this a very common occurance? I have much gas engine experience but this is my first diesel to work on much. Thanks in advance. You guys have helped much more than the local Ford mechanics.
The barely any movement could be just a worn rocker assy lever post. Remove the suspect rocker assy and check it for excess wear on the rocker, post and the push rod depression.
The other problem could be a broken lifter, they are roller lifters and sometimes the rollers disintegrate and chew up the cam (worst case scenario). Try doing a push rod height check with the rocker assy removed. Also pull the push rods to see if they are bent, install with copper to the top.
