I've been known to tell people: Think the truck is big? You should see the boat! Click here
Just completed a 700 mile tow from Lake Coeur d'Alene with my 14,000 lb boat and the truck performed absolutely fantastic... Unbelievable! Very stable/comfortable ride. This truck pulls the boat up the biggest of mountain passes at whatever speed I want- Although I never exceed 70 mph.
Comments or other FTE Member Big Tow Reports are welcome
That is a really nice boat UT. I was born and raised there in Coeur d' Alene. Spent a lot of time on that lake fishing, tubing, skiing. I make it home every year to elk hunt but usually don't make it to the lake anymore since it just isn't lake weather, lol. That is great mileage considering everything that was working against you.
Very nice, Utahtom, I agree 1000%...these trucks are in their element pulling big loads, see my gallery. We just hauled her a couple weeks ago 360 miles through the Alaska and Chugach Range to Valdez.
That is a big boat even by Gulf of Mexico standards. The milage is about what I have seen, I was up through that country last spring pulling our T/T and avg about 12 mpg but it is a little lighter. And it didn't seem to make a lot of difference if it flat like southern Idaho or the moutains. The only thing that took its toll was the wind and that's enough said about that.
I just have to say again how impressed I am with how well the 6.0 pulls a heavy load- This forum has seen plenty of 6.0 trash talkers... And I particularly enjoy all those 6.0 experts that have never actually owned a 6.0 Both of my 6.0's (stock) will pull any "legal" load up the biggest Interstate Highway mountain passes at virtuallly any desired/legal speed.
As stated in my original post, I welcome other big tow reports in this thread. There's just something about rolling down the road when the GCW is over 20,000 lbs especially when I'm headed to the water
Do you prefer the 3.73 or 4.30 for driving around empty?
No comparison: I prefer the 4.3's around town... It seems like the truck isn't working nearly as hard. The only time I miss the 3.73's is better mpg when I'm not towing on a big (freeway) extended roadtrip at 80 mph.
I can tell my last 2 trucks with 3.73 is too high. 10 or 15% lower equivalent gearing would be a blast. Fuel consumption in this day and age HAS to be a consideration. Just as long as she doesn't get 10mpg.
