Edge with Windows ME

Is anyone else running the Edge Lightning software with windows ME? I got my Edge yesterday afternoon and installed it this morning. No problems at all with the install on the truck, but when I went to install the software on the computer I had problems. The software loaded with no problems and I pre installed the USB driver for it. When I plug my EVO into it I get nothing..... it says disconnected. I have called Edge already. They are going to have one of thier programmers call me but in the meantime I figured I would tap into my knowledge base here! Any help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance

I don't own an Edge and don't claim to be any sort of expert, but you might want to see what kind of USB connection your computer has built into it. You might find out that your computer has a USB 1.0 connection and the Edge could be looking for a USB 2.0 connection to communicate through. Good place to start.

So is there any way to change it if thats the case? I can see my wife now... you spent the $$$ for the tuner and now you want to spend $1000 for a new computer! Oh god..... I can hear it now!

I am sure you can find a USB 2.0 card to plug into an available PCI slot on your existing machine if necessary. They should be pretty darn cheap these days, I am guessing $30 or less.

First thing is to check with the Edge folks to see if this is in fact an issue, then proceed from there. My assumption is if you are running a computer that has Window ME installed, it is more than likely a pretty old box.

same thing

I just received my edge today from discount power parts. GREAT COMPANY!!! Best communication in the world.

I was having the same issue. Then I remembered on the website where I downloaded from there was wnother download. Follow the instructions for the second download to see if that takes care of it.

Hope that helps. I just got mine "connected" and am starting to explore with it.

Most USB 2.0 devices are backward compatible.

By backward compatible do you mean it should work anyway? I have never had a problem with anything else on my computer. This program isn't that large and pretty basic. My son's games on the other hand are a different story. Very high resolution graphics and many different levels. The computer handles this well also. The EVO works. I currently have it on a custom level 2 and it is awesome! I simply like the fact tht I can monitor the entire truck from the EVO. Plus the extra kick in the *** is great!

you just need to install your usb driver,,,,,to clarify usb driver that you have for your computer,, if you don't have them just get your self a new usb port(portable) or upgrade your system to xp more than likely $100......your choice, it's only a software issue, you don't need to buy a new computer....

To verify that your USB port on your PC is working, plug a different USB device into it. A printer or something. The computer should give you a pop up box that tells you it sees a new device. After that you don't have to go though the whole installation, it was just to verify that the port is working.
I am not familiar with the Edge product. Is it a cable that actually goes from the computer to the truck?

I had the same problem. It was not a port problem for me, just for some reason all the drivers did not install. I needed to uninstall the software I assume you know how to do that ? If not let me know and reinstall again. mine worked fine after that. just a glitch in their software

I have uninstalled the program and reinstalled the program. The usb port is good. I checked it by holding the menu button down on the Edge while plugging it in. It lights up just like it does in the truck. I have installed all the drivers and uninstalled all the drivers. Nothing is working. I have gone into the device properties screen to see if maybe it wasn't listed, but it was. I did a check for the latest drivers and I have them installed. I am not computer illiterate by any means. I deal with them every day of my life. This is definately a problem with Edge software not the computer. They have thier programmer involved on thier end and I am still trying on mine. I was wondering if anyone else had the same issues and got it resolved and how. Thanks for all the replies and info.

I am running an older dell computer with ME installed and I had no problems loading the Edge software and communicating with the unit itself. Like mentioned above you probably don't have the drivers installed correctly? Follow the directions closely, if the problem continues call Edge they are more then helpful..

Hey chasman, when you plug your EVO into your computer do you get an hourglass icon? Did you get one the first time you plugged it in. Did you get the new hardware found message? I have everything installed correctly. I went through teh entire process by myself and with the rep from edge. Everything is there, I preinstalled the usb drivers, I am still getting the disconnected message when I open the software. I'm beginning to wonder if there is something wrong with the EVO itself. I mean, the Evo works fine in the truck. It programs the way it's supposed to and operates correctly. There might be something not connected quite right on the USB side of the EVO. could this be possible? I didn't get the new hardware found message. I do however get an hourglass when I plug it in. It is very frustrating not to be able to plug the EVO in and explore even more. I haven't heard from Edge yet,I hope they call back on MON!
