New Intercooler

Okay, I have purchased, received and installed my new intercooler that I got from Turbonetics. Its thier new TorqueMaster diesel line. Right now they offer intercoolers for the 6.0 and the 7.3. (I think the dodge too, but who cares).
The thing has 3.5 in core, aluminum tanks and it replaces the plastic boost tube. Its bar and plate vs tube and fin. Bar and Plate is what they use in the dragster world so it can handle substantially higher pressure than stock. Perfect bolt in replacement.
I'm taking a 2000 mile trip this weekend so I'll post my findings. Pulling a 4000lb trailer up and a 8000lb 5th wheel back.
By the way, my truck is 2005 F250 SD CC. I am also using a Edge Juice/Attitude and a Borla cat back exhaust system. I also use stock air intake.

Interested to see if it drops EGT or you actually feel a HP difference

Between the radiator, AC, transmission and other coolers stuffed in there, I'm surprised the intercooler can do anything at all. I got my daughter riding shotgun and she's going to keep a log of the egt's as we go along.

I looked at one of the Banks 'After-cooler kits'.. NOT CHEAP!

I don't know that adding a better cooler is going to provide a performance gain other than to be able to run the Edge on a higher setting when towing. Still, without a larger down tube, I don't know that reduced EGT's are going to be potential or even equal to those of us with full 4" exhaust with the stock 'cooler'. Cooler 'in', doesn't always mean 'cooler out'. Allowing the hot gasses the ability to be scavenged out would be more efficient in my book. Unless there's boost pressures exceding 35+psi, then I'm not sure this is a cost effective install.

I am interested in the logs from this trip though.

I looked at the Turbonetics website.. Tuner stuff. I don't see anything listed for a 6.0. But that could just be the site content being out of date. Still, if they wanta sell stuff, they ought to get the advertising crew on board.

I've been loking at intercoolers for a while.
So for a 6.o it looks like Banks,Hypermax, The long island diesel one and know thw turbonetics. I'm ommiting the others that are custom made to order.
Is the Banks the only unit with the "high-ram" type feature?
Maybe i'm wrong but it would seem like that would be required to make the most out of a more efficient intercooler.
If the others are using the stock inlet then it would make sense that its not as free flowing.
Anyone?

Okay, sorry for the delay in responding.

The trip was pulling a 3500lb trailer from Ventura, CA to Salem Oregon. The recording equipment was the Edge monitor and a teenager bribed with junk food and getting to listen to any music she wanted. (which helped to keep dad awake.) Beautiful scenery didn't help. I can report that a good way to drive a teenager nuts is to keep asking "what is it now?" every 5 minutes while beautiful mountains are rolling by.

I5 going thru mountains on CA/Oregon border have several 5-6% grades and rises to about 4500'. It was in the mid 80's. In the big pulls I held the truck between 60-65 in tow/haul, at about 2400-2600 rpm. Edge was in setting 2, or tow for the whole trip.
EGT's, according to gum-chewing recording device, never went above 1100. Generally stayed in the mid 900's. Water temp stayed normal with needle at halfway point. Transmission temp, for what its worth, stayed normal as well.
Unless I stomped on it to pass somebody, the boost on the hill climbs stayed around 23-25 lbs.
So, all things considered, its an improvement over stock. How much I'm not sure. I'm sure you will see more gains the harder you push it. The intercoolers are basically Spearco racing intercoolers which are used in drag racing, high performance type situations. I went to a Turbonetics open house for Scions and got to see how they put them together, core types and other interesting things.

What? No baseline test first? That is disturbing to us engineers....lol..

Maybe you could put the stock IC back in and get some numbers for us engi-nerds.

I could come up with a nifty DOE (design of experiments) matrix if you are willing to be the "test mule".

Banks is usually 200 degrees cooler than stock. Other than that you will need an air to water to make any more improvement.

Sorry for the delay in responding. Its been way too busy at work. If anybodys got any idea's for tests to see what the real improvement is I'd be willing to try. I noticed in magazines that any adds concering intercoolers are suspiciously void of any horsepower or egt claims. Just a Banks ad that says airflow improvement. But, it appears it did run better on the trip I just took.

The intercooler is not high on my current mod list, but it is there. I figured the banks power cooler package with high ram and unsquashed boost tubes for the dual alt trucks. The squash has the same cross-sectional area so it shouldn't matter.
