i am extremely new to rangers so i am doing a little research before i start my project i want to know what it will take to put a 302 out of an early 90's mustang into a 1997 ranger my uncle gave me one that he hit a deer with and while the front is off of it me and my dad are throwing around the idea of swapping the motor for something more fun. i know its going to need a rearend and stuff. any sites or places where pre-fabbed motor mounts or conversion headers would be nice or any old posts that someone has left from there conversion. the motorhas been changed from fuel injection to carbuerator so i wont need much electronic help but any help at all is appreciated.
James Duff makes a conversion kit to swap a 302 into a ranger, so does advanced adapters, I'm sure there's more, I just can't think of them off hand, I hope this helps.
Yeah...302 is a VERY common swap, not too difficult. Your rear-end, provided you have an 8.8" and not the 7.5", can stand up to even a modded one. With your front end off, it'll be pretty easy actually.

You will be better off ditching the Mustang drivetrain and finding a rolled 96-01 5.0L Exploder drivetrain.
Pretty much plug and play in a 4x4 Ranger and you need only different engein mounts for a 2wd non-Edge Ranger.
It will de difficult at best to run an OBD2 Ranger with a carbie and get anything like a speedometer to function at all, since it's looking for that input from thw computer.
If it's a drag race truck, do what you want. If it's a daily driver and you want things to go easily, get the Exploder drivetrain. How hard can it be to snap a few matching harness plugs together anyway? I've done harness jobs, so EFI ain't hard after some thought.
sorry havent posted back i have been busy
now i am tossing around the idea of putting a big block in the thing i rode in a late 80's 302 ranger about a week ago its pretty mean but i want to be able to run with the local stangs and camaros i have a completly stock 460 with c6 and a 9 inch rear out of a 78 f-150 i think i can make it work if any info is available on big block swaps let me know.
from the info i am reading so far i think a will trade the 460 for a 351 windsor just because of the weight of the 460 and the ease of conversion to the smallblock into the ranger.
