20 plus mpg? If that's what you mean then I'd say that's stretching it for a 360. Are you sure of your odometer? If your speedometer/odometer is off then possibly you're registering more miles than you actually drive.
wow i'd be happy if mine got 15. have you changed out the rear gears or changed the rear tire size? 20+ out of an fe sounds like something out of the twilight zone.
I average 16 out of my 352, the best I ever got was with every condition right flat ground nothing over 65 and no pony starts for a wow factor of 18 mpg. So if you are getting 20 you had better log everything you have done to it and keep it there. Don't try and tune anything.
I thought I was getting 20 but maybe not, The driveline i haven't touch but when looking at the axle code in my NPD catalogue I got a rearend the gears around 3 flat, a 3.02 I believe is what they called it. Again though I haven't checked anything about my speedometer/ odometer calibration.
I feel stupid I now noticed everyone who answered is an American answering in imperial gallons. In Canada a metric gallon is quite noticably larger then an American imperial gallon.
And now we know. 1 US Gallon = 0.83267 Canadian (Imperial) Gallon. So 20 mpg Canadian is about 16 MPG U.S. Still impresive for a C6, but reasonable.
As for the 352 VS 360, if you bore a 352 .050 over, you have a 360. there is basicly no diffrence between them other than the size of the bore. They share the same crank. There might be a 3 or 4 horsepower diffrence, but there is usualy a 3 or 4 horsepower diffrence between 2 identacle new engines, so you'll never notice it
Years ago I had a 1963 Mercury Moterey Custom 2-dr. It had a stock 300 HP 390, 4V carb, 11:1 compression and dual exhaust, and 3.00 gears and only about 60k miles on the car.
On a trip from Denver to Omaha I had a tank of 92 octane and had added 5 gallons of 108 (close) aviation fuel. I cruised as close to 80 as I could. That first tank with the 5 gallons av-gas I got 19.6 mpg. From that point on without the av-gas I still average over 18 mpg on the freeway. Normal around town was closer to 12 and 16 was average on the highway.
