charging question

what is the max voltage you should see on a charging system. I just hooked up one of those Summit smallcase 100amp one wires and ran it the first time. That thing is charging at 17.4 volts at 800rpm. That just seems abit excessive to me like it could cook some stuff.

14-15 volts tops, maybe even 16 at high idle.....have your alternator and voltage regulator tested before something gets fried.....if those check fine, check and clean all grounds, and get a wiring diagram to make sure everything between the alt and voltage regulator is wired up right....

Any where from 13.2 to 14.5 voltage range should be consider the normal charging range for most alternators. 17.4 volts is displaying an alternator which is overcharging, and can ruin fairly quick a good battery. Here an article https://www.ford-trucks.com/article/...ord_Truck.html
