Yet another pwr. steering issue
I just replaced the Power steering pump on my 77 F-250 2X4 because it was leaking and screaming. Followed all the bleeding procedures, fluid levels etc. Steering was working fine with the exception of the dieing pump.
Now, no power assist to the left. Ok to the right but nothing to the left. If I jack up the front everything works fine left/right. If I am moving it works ok to the right (Feels like my old 76 Courrier armstrong steering tho) If I am stationary or moving very little, complete resistance. No whining, no foaming or noticable air in the fluid and steady fluid levels durring all of the above situations.
The Power steering unit is about 13yrs old. Could the new pump be pushing fluid past old seals in the old steering unit? Or could there just be debris from the old dieing pump packed up into the unit?
If a power steering unit replacement is in order recomendations on a good source? I am located in the San Francisco bay area in CA.
