Can't stand diesels............even though I'm reluctantly conceding it may be the only choice for my size truck in the not so near future....Don't like the GM "Truck".....purely subjective on my part.
With that being said, my buddy bought a D/Max 6 speed Allison that is a diesel I could "almost" live with.
Like Polarbear has stated, the 6 speed Allison has erased any of the low end lag that I found annoying on driving the Ford Rescues.......and even the Cummins. (I realize a minor powerbrake/spooling turbo helps)
The thing is, how can anyone....including me, the most cynical diesel hater, complain about 650 feet pounds of STOCK/warranted power???
well yeah i figured that. i just understood your thread as you asking us to convince you into buying a deisel. or at least thats how it came across to me anyway. so it was kinda left open ended to me with no closure. we need closure around here man.
on the other hand why is it that you cant stand a diesel?

In a way, I AM trying to convince myself........but @ 60,000 miles on my '01 V10 it may not be for awhile.
My subjective views are that diesels are smelly, noisy and sluggish compared to a gasser............knowing full well that some actually prefer those traits..
Understand, I drive rescues at work so after 12/24/48 hour shifts I've had my fill.
My objective view is that the way "I" and what I brazingly think the way the majority of light truck owners use their trucks, that the extra upfront cost, higher maintenance costs and the easier (not neccessarily higher) towing capacity after 90% capacity is not worth it for the AVERAGE owner.
That being said, I'm seeing the writing on the wall that the diesel will be the powerplant of choice shortly...........and I'm reluctantly impressed with the GM motor if not total truck.
It will be interesting to see how my buddy will fare(sp?) with his 3rd GM truck in 4 years....LOL!!!
I also PRAY the 6.4 will have a better intro than the 6.0.........but I'm having a very difficult time stomaching the new proposed Super Duty styling...

well i hate to say it but dodge ha a heck of a truck and i think it might be worth it to ya to at least go test drive one. the cummins is an extremly reliable engine and maintance is alot cheaper with the cummins. my father has a 24v 00' and hasnt had any trouble out of it at all.he uses it for a daily driver and for hauling. its a good truck. just cruise on over to the dodge dealer and see what the new cummins is about. i think you will like it.

I like Cummins...........it'll be exciting when Dodge catches up with the 5 and 6 speed autos.......they do seem to have some pretty freaky cab configs. though!!!
Read the post, my friend.........it is mostly subjective. (Of course the wife getting nauseous in the back of a PSD Excursion didn't help)
Your comment is like saying a DOHC 4 valve 4 cylinder Japanese motor "feels" the same as the old American 4 cylinders.....
Guys, I even got an air conditioned cab for my Kubota tractor so as not to smell it running!!!
oh, ok, i got it, i wasn't trying to be rude, just curious. my wife likes the sound from the outside but hates it on long trips, she says it sounds like old tractor belarus. i am hopefully going to solve the prob with some dynomat.
