I'm ready to pull my hair out: I have a '76 F150 with a mild 390 (planning upgrades soon) on which I changed the ignition system to a full Mallory setup including an old-model HyFire VII box, 28880 coil and 4755301H Unilite distributor. I hooked it up according to the instructions and can't get the coil to fire a strong spark = no spark at the plugs. I've done the tests I found on the 'net for the box, the ignition module inside the distributor and the coil, all came out positive. I also tested the coil wire and have low resistance. I called the Mallory tech line and after a 35 minute wait, they were absolutely no help. The only idea I have is the interaction with the existing Duraspark module. I have the coil hooked up to the two coil leads from the box and have another wire going to the positive terminal of the coil. This wire was one of the wires originally attached to the positive of my stock coil, but it disappears inside a wrapped loom and the electrical diagrams show it going to the module (I think). I'm probably going to send all the stuff to Mallory and have them test it, but I wanted to see if you guys had any ideas first. Thank you so much for your help!
why use a unilite with a dsII box??? the unilite dist has 3 wires on it 1 for power, 1 for ground, and 1 for coil pos. there is no need for anything else in the system. the unilite works like a pertronix unit. it eliminates the points, but uses its own dist, cap, and rotor.
