Well it finally happened. 24000 miles and driving down the road. All of the sudden check engine light came and and truck shut down. Would only turn over. After messing around with Roadside assitance from Ford, finally got truck to dealership. Almost 3 weeks now, but here's what happened. They found the low pressure oil pump inner gear in about 5 pieces with the housing for it with a 4-5" crack. Found pieces of metal in the lower pump that shelled it out. Ford told them to check all the top end High pressure pump parts (valves lifters, etc.) Couldn't find anything there. So finally Monday they tore out the turbo to find the impeller shaft with a lot of play. 3 fins were worn with 2 of them missing chunks out of them. They decided that was the cause......But now the Diesel tech is in Chicago for the rest of the week for traing......Good thing I'm paying $700/month to drive a Ford Focus right now..... Wish I would have had the camera with me at dealership to show pics of the parts.......Never any problems until this....Had to vent. Thanks!!!
Wow...sorry to hear about your down time. They only have one diesel tech?
Had to drive a Focus on an insurance claim a couple of years ago. Nice little car but, feels like your driving a roller skate compared to the big dawg truck.

Good luck with your fix.
It's a small dealership but the service manager and diesel tech are great. But yes, there is only one.....
its a good thing the check engine light came on to let you know there was something wrong, such a great troubleshooting tool!
Yeah, I really didn't know anything was wrong when the motor shut down. Thought maybe the engine was finally "broke in"and that's why it got so quiet....Well it's "broke" in all right
Look at the bright side. I hear there is an upgraded replacement turbo. At least you'll get that replacement done under warranty.
And look at the fuel you'll save in that focus.
I hope that helps. Sometimes I need to REALLY try and focus on the bright side of things. Don't worry, she'll come home. Absence makes the heart grow fonder maybe???
