I am in the process of refurbishing my doors before the Supernats. Over the weekend I put new weatherstripping on and last night rehung the doors. Worked great, fit great, closed well. Thought I was on a roll, until this evening. Next project was to replace the glass run, anti rattlers, and division bars. Totally botched this job. First, glass run kinked and before I am done, ruined an anti rattler trying to remove. I know what I did wrong on the kinking glass run, but my question is this? Which of these three items gets installed first, second and third? The window division bar, the glass run channel or the felt anti rattlers? Any helpful hints from your experiences would be great. Have to order more parts tomorrow. Thanks
on the window I was reading the directions for my glass and it says (it maybe differnet from the 53) to install the divider, glass runs, and the felt is last or the glass will tear up the felt, that is what it says from mine
I am doing the same thing and have had some of the same problems. When you bend the window runner make sure that you use the window as a guide to bend it over and make sure that the stainless edges slide over the ends of the track or it will kink. I put the vent window in first and then the division bar and then the runner along the back of the door. The anti-rattlers go on next and the window in last. Sometimes it's hard to get the window in the runners with all of the stuff in and tightened so leave some play in it and tighten it later and make sure that you adjust the division bar to keep the window from moving side to side.
I was able to get one door done the next night, while I wait for replacement parts for the ones I ruined. You were right about the stainless bead needing to slide on the channel. That was where I went wrong the first time. Even this time the anti rattlers were a @#^& to get the last snap in by the glass run, without bending one of them. Hope my luck holds for the remaining door.
The anti-rattlers are a pain. The snap that is located towards the rear of the door is the hardest. I had some luck reaching inside the door and using a screwdriver to push the snap into place while my son held it down from above. Good luck.
