I called the local performance/ machine shop and ask them to match up a cam for my 70-F100. 351w-600 edelbrock-performer 351 intake; I am going to add headers and everything else is stock and rebuilt. They refered me to a 268H comp cam. He said I would need larger springs and that he was not sure if the spring seats would need to be ground out to accomodate the larger springs. The specs are; Lift-456/456
Duration-.050'' 218/218
Adv Durat-268/268
And it is hydralic
Question is: Do these spring seats need to be ground out?
And I have seen where people have talked about port matching their heads to match the intake, is this necessary with a Edelbrock Performer 351w?
I looked around a bit on Comp Cam's site, couldn't really find what I was looking for there which is installed height specs on the recommended springs for that cam (which are 972-16)
Installed height and coil bind will determine if the spring seats in the head need to be cut. The machine shop may not know until they actually check the haeds for fit of the new springs and make the determination at that time whether to cut the seats or not.
You could try and call Comp's Tech line and ask them, they should know if the seats need to be cut with those springs.
