Can anyone give me the International part number for the van turbo assembly, please? Or tell me where I can find it? It's got to be the IH number, not the Ford part number too.
Before you ask, no I don't have any problems with my turbo, it's running fine. There's been some speculation on another forum about using the 1.15 "van turbo" exhaust housing on the truck turbo. Supposedly, one of the members found that the truck turbine wheel has a slightly smaller, different trim, and different shaped turbine wheel. I actually talked to the guy in depth about it at the BTS Open House too. He's done some pretty extensive research on it using 2 differnt van turbos and a truck turbo, trying about every combination of wheels and housings possible, including ATS and WW on the intake side. His theory is, if you use the "van turbo" housing on a truck turbo with the truck turbine wheel, you could be losing a few pounds of boost and have slightly more lag, than if you had used the whole van turbo with the van wheel. This is because the truck wheel doesn't fit as tight against the van housing. I know Kris, I didn't want to hear that either.
However, I also talked to several other people who say there is no difference between the van and truck turbine wheel. I've also heard that you can get the whole van turbo from IH for around $600 (cheaper than Ford) with no core needed (Ford wants your old turbo). If that's true, I'm probably willing to play test subject on this one for FTE. I figure if I find the above statements to be true, I can buy the van turbo and sell the truck turbo to make my losses a little less. Then report what I find to you all.
But, when I called the IH dealer today, they couldn't do much unless I was able to give them the IH part number. Hopefully that's where someone here can help me out.
hmm. that sucks! however i think it is not true anyway, my turbine wheel came extremely close to hitting the housing with new bearings. i dont see any exhaust pressure leaking past.
i just checked my parts list, and it's all ford numbers. i have them if you still want the numbers...?
I'll give it a shot with the Ford numbers. Go ahead and shoot those to me.
Question for you Kris. When you had everything apart, did you lay the turbine wheel in the exhaust housing to see how it fit? If you did, was it snug or did it wallow around just the slightest bit? The edge of my turbine wheel fit the outlet of the turbo closely. It's supposed to be in the middle of the wheel where the differences are, where it's very hard to see.
Scott, here's the number the ford dealer gave me as the complete turbo assembly for a 2000 E-350: XC2Z6K682AARM
Hopefully that will pull up something. Thanks for the help.
I've been conversing with him in some PMs/emails lately... he's helped me quite a bit. VERY helpful and willing to share his experience. He encouraged me to go with the Banks Big Head after I mentioned the ATS housing... I'm sure glad I did!
Yup. That's the guy. Would have never known it was him, except his license plate is the same as his screen name. He and Jody made the trip to BTS together. 14 hour drive - ouch.
He mentioned to me that Zane let Jody drive his (Zane's) truck... Jody said he was going about a steady 55 mph, then rolled onto the throttle about halfway (while in 4x4 ) and broke all four tires loose, and just skipped along.
Wish I could've been there... sounds like it was a blast.
Typically the R in the part number indicates that it was part of a a campaign/recall. The navistar quick reference book only shows two numbers for a ford, both being a model GT 37, a ford number of F6TZ6K682ARM is navistars reman part # of 1822775C92 or the other ford # F4TZ6K682BRM crosses to a navistar 1822869C93.
Are you just feeling guilty for getting a free BTS tranny or trying to stop your recent flare up of PMS?
Not guilty...don't want to look the gift horse.... I think it's definately more PMS related. I can directly thank the trans shop for that one too. Let's see, free up some $$ that you had planned to spend and give you a bullet proof transmission to handle pretty much anything you can throw at it. It doesn't take much of an imagination to see where this one's going to end up. One thing is for sure though, you all will definately know when new mods happen.
