1987,f-150,fuel injected, 3.2
I will start the truck up and it will run for about 30 mins. and if you mash the gas it will spit and spudder it runs fine if you just let it idle. Then after about 30. mins it will start to spit and spudderat idle and then it just dies. I replaced the tank changer on the frame of the truck. The muffler pipe underneath is broke off. But its been broke off for a wile and it ran fine. What do you think it could be? Then after it shuts off after running for the 30mins. you can start it back up but it will only run for about 2mins.Please give me some information!
sounds like the timing is off when it warms up. what engine is in that 150? i dont think that fuel would be the problem, as it runs fine for the 30 mins. does it run fine when you ease into the throttle, and not when you mash it? and no, the exhaust shouldnt have anything to do with this problem.
If i just ease into the gas it will rev up but when you start to get reved up pretty high it starts to spit and spudder. The f-150 has a 302 in it. Thanks for any info!
What would the timing be on that 302? Also how whould i set the timing and any special tools? I dont get how the timing would get off does it just get off my itself?
well it depends, if your 302 has the EEC IV ignition system (with module mounted on the distributor), you have to disconnect a two-prong connector that is hanging in that area, then get you a timing gun, and connect it all up. loosen the bolt holding the distributor, not much, just enough so it moves, and start the engine. When the engine is at operating temperature and idling, have someone watching the timing marks, set the timing at 10 degrees BTDC. then tighten that holding bolt down, and reconnect the connector, and there you go.
there are a few things that could have happened to knock the engine out of time, but we need more info. has this always been like this or did it just recently start? any recent engine fixes that could have done this? every little bit helps
If I put 1 of those computers on my truck to check and see whats wrong would it tell me whats wrong with it? Also where can i get 1 of those computers? or just rent 1?
