More minor 02 focus issues

So my girlfriend's focus is having fits again...

We had the battery light coming on, she cleaned the battery cables a little (w/o taking htem off) and it seemed to help but it's back again and I'm going to take the cables off and clean it.

But now the check engine light is on and the airbag light is on.

Had it scanned at autozone and the CEL is from the old plugs/wires probably (gonna do that). But he didn't say what the airbag light is on for (if he could of I'm not sure) and I'd like to find out.

When u turn the car on the airbag light is not on but it'll come on at some point while driving. It'll blink 9 times then blink once and repeat that 4 times. Once that sequence is over it'll stay on til u shut it off she says.

What is that an indication of? I don't have a focus manual...Matt can I have yours? hahaha

My daughter's Focus had the positive battery cable somehow laid against the block--somehow it burned all the rubber & insulation off and then was shorting out against the block. She lives 280 miles away and took it to the dealer--they seemed to indicate it wasn't an unusual happening.

If the positive cable was rubbing on something (like the block) while the vehicle was being driven, it would eventually wear off the insulation and the copper wire would contact the metal block and ground itself and cause a massive short circuit - probably enough to catch the car on fire and destroy it. If the cable was near a heat source like the exhaust manifold - it would melt the insulation.

But there are fuses that sometimes work in these situations...

I'll look at the battery cable.

I can fix the battery light and CEL but I don't know what the airbag light is indicating to me.

How many miles are on your Focus? Ours has about 90k miles on the original plugs & wires, still runs well, and according to the maintenance schedule, they're good to about 100k miles.

It has 90k on it too.

I changed the plugs/wires and it fixed the problem. The CEL is still on but I havn't reset the computer yet.

I'm mostly concerned with the airbag light. I need to fix that.
