Hi, I have a bad miss that started 2 weeks ago while off roading and I can't seem to figure it out. I drove over a small rock wall and afterwards the truck did not want to idle. I checked under the truck which is a 76 f150 4x4 with a 390 and a performer carb and I did not see anything damaged. I turned up the idle so I could drive home and since that I have pulled the plugs and they look great and I replaced the pcv valve, all vacum hoses, and fuel filter. The truck fires up no problem but just does not want to idle. Any thoughts??
I was kinda thinking the same thing because I did get on it pretty hard getting over the wall and was wondering if something in the carb was shaken loose. I put the sping loaded needles in it last year and had been working very well.
Check if the brake power booster is leaking, How much vacuum is the engine pulling?
If the engine backfired while four wheeling, it could be the power valve on the Holley performer. Turn idle mixture screws in, till it bottom out (do not over tighten) and if engine continures to run, the power valve is shot, sReplace it, and readjust the idle mixture screws.
Not sure on how much vacum I am pulling. Carb is edelbrock performer and I don't think they have a power valve? Brakes are fine but will look at the booster this weekend. A person at work suggested the fuel pump may be going bad??
You're correct, Edelbrock does not have a power valve.
Check the oil level, Check the fuel lines, check the coil pack, Check for any vacuum leaks along the intake manifold and carb base. Check for any exhaust manifold /headers leaks.
Maybe the distributor housing bolt is loose and the distributor housing moved. recheck timing.
rescuedranger you nailed it. My exhaust pipe up near the header gut struck by the what looks like the front u-joint and it smashed it in pretty good. I have a 4" lift on the truck and for that to have happened the front suspension would need to compress quite a bit. What sucks is the exhaust cost me 250.00 to have put on not including the mufflers and headers and that was only 7 months ago. I think I will takes it back and see what they will do for me if anything.
