Question Thoughts on this performance setup? >>

My 06 SD PSD has about 6500 miles on it now, and I'm ready to do some performance mods. Right now a guy I know suggests the Edge w/ Attitude, Magaflow TB exhaust, and brickforce (or something "force") CAI. I know the Edge might not make the most power, but I really don't need the absolute maximum and am happy to sacrifice a bit for some reliability (and Edge is in my neighborhood), but I don't really know much about the exhaust or CAI. I use the truck for towing and hauling toys on the weeknds. Any input is greatly appreciated!

Personally I would just go with 4" MBRP turbo back exhaust, gauges (boost, pyro, and trans.), and a custom tuned SCT. But that is just me. If you do go with the edge be very careful that it doesn't eat your transmission.

I agree that the MBRP 409 stainless turbo back is a great product, and probably the best bang for the buck. Some folks dont like the clutter of gauges and like to rely on a monitoring system to defuel the engine if she gets too hot. I myself like gauges, for the simple fact that they are less likely to let you down. Im not saying that electronic monitors are less of a product, I personally feel better with gauges.

We get some really good custom tunes from Innovative Diesel and the trany tuning is great. I havent ran into a situation where an Edge, banks, bullydog, or similar product has destroyed a trany with out the help of a driver. I'm sure it has happend, maybe we are just lucky.

As far as the CAI goes there is a lot of debate weather it is needed or not for the new 6.0L. The factory system is alot better than others in the past, but I can honestly say my 05 spools up faster with my CAI.

CBSuperduty is right when he says be very careful that it doesn't eat your transmission. I have heard a lot of people having problems with the transmission after using the Edge. I personally like the Banks system but as stated before that is just my opinion. I have heard nothing but good things about the SCT also. Good luck and be sure to post what you end up with.

Banks and SCT (www.SCTflash.com)are both good choices. Banks Power PDA ( www.bankspower.com ) is a great system with monitoring of parameters that will protect the truck...if you can afford it. If you have a need for the PDA as well, it makes the deal that much sweeter.

The Brute Force intake is a quality product...as much as a K&N or any other big name product. Intakes to look at are K&N, AEM, AFE, or a True-Flow replacement filter for cheap but effective increase in airflow.

MBRP is a great exhaust that is priced right when compared to many of the other choices out there.

I did quite a bit of research on this subject as I was looking for the same when I bought my 04 f250 PSD. My buddy has an '04 also with the Edge w/ Attitude and an intake. Another buddy of mine has a '06 Cummins with Triple dog, 4" MBRP, and an intake. I wanted to have a diesel that would beat them both. His Cummins wasn't too hard to beat in a race, even though it does have TONS of torque and pulling power, its a six speed so it takes him all day to shift (mine is Auto). I decided to go with the Triple Dog downloader from Bully Dog. Ive got the outlook monitor for adjustability and to monitor my EGTs and tell me HP, Torque, 1/4 mile, 0-60, boost, etc. The reading are fun but can be alittle tricky sometimes, so don't get the idea that your going to have a dynamometer in your truck if you get it. The Triple Dog has the tranny adjustments also for more control and if they upgrade it I can just download the new flash. I agree with the earlier posts that K&N and MBRP are great products from my limited experience. I added a K&N FIPK Gen II intake. Its definately not Cold Air though, just mass hot air, but its pretty cheap on EBAY. My intake temp reading raised quite a bit but it throws alot of air to the motor. You even hear the difference. Also added a 4" SS MBRP Turbo Back no Cat. and the thing is a screamer. I have had numerous comments on how good it sounds. I almost got a silverline dual exhaust because they were a little cheaper. Their website has a video with sound that almost sold me, but I just didnt know enough about their product. Absolutely love the turbo whistle in my MBRP with no cat though! FYI I've got a 2004 CC 4x4 that loves to roast the little imports that swarm the streets in my area. The look on their face when a 3/4 ton truck passes them is priceless.

Anyone who doesnt think the Edge/Attitude isnt powerful, never turned it to 5. It is the most powerful box off the line. I have personally roasted 1 stock tranny and 1 Suncoast Extreme Duty transmission with their 3 clutch convertor all in 56,000 miles. I now think the tranny was strong enough but the EPC solenoids suck. They have been on recall a few times and I do believe they cause all of my failures. There was always a small delay between the time I shifted into drive or reverse and when it actually engaged (it should be instant!). Not a clunk, just an instant engagement. I also run an SCT stacked.
