I just got a used 1997 F250 4/4 Off Road HD with E40D & 351.
This truck has 219k miles and has a reman motor and 90k junk yard trans with Transco HD2 installed. Timing is at 10', 4.10 gears, 12mpg, fresh filters and fluids, just tuned up.
When i start it up it always starts with detonation and seems to start stumble then recover. When idling for awhile it seems to stumble but not often, when under load there is no stumble. This tank seems to really strugle with the hills in my area, weird with over a ton of dirt in the back it seems the same. Seems to bog after every shift. When driven hard it really comes alive after 3k. Are these common problems for a SD vehicle like this? My friends 96 mas air Bronco with same driveline has great throttle responce 14mpg and feels so much stronger then my truck, is it just the weight difference or is it the MAS Air???
That doesn't sound right to me especially with a fresh tuneup. Almost sounds like to much fuel to me, but hard to say unless you're right there. Have you tried unhooking the negitive cable from the battery to clear the computor, the computor may be messed up after the tune up and still trying to sort itself out. The injectors might need a good cleaning to. I had a 94 with the same drivetrain and I could pull anything with that truck.
I am going to try and borrow the NSG Star tester from work so i can check out my short and long term fuel trims. Or take it up to my friends dyno shop and use his WB and log some runs. Injectors do have 219k miles on them i might send them out for a good cleaning, They are 24lbs correct. The truck is running better after 2 full tanks run threw and computer has relearned.
