Loose wire problem

After some major off roading my truck has had a loose
wire some where, I went to start it today it turned
over, didn't have the gas so I stopped turning it over,
pushed the pedal a couple times and it did not click
or nothing when I tryed to turn it over, then I tried to
bypass the solenoid and it jes shorted sparks n'stuff,
Is there a common wire that goes loose or a fuse or what,?
I'm stumped cause at first this one wire was coming loose
alls I had to do was pop it back together, then popping it back
together stopped working and I had to rattle all the other connections that worked, and now none of that works...not
even my fist!!!Help is appreciated
the truck is 1970 custom camper/s,390 2bbl,4gear,has some
tape deck in it thats not stock in case that helps to answer
the question, there is also a unconnected orange wire with
no other hookup in sight,Stepping up to super camper special
soon I hope cause inspections got this one

Loose wire problem

The orange wire that you speake of is probably the fuel gauge sender wire for an auxillary tank. If you do not have one that wire is still supplied by the factory and is just unused. Check your ground cable from the battery negative terminal to the engine block. There should be less than 1 ohm, if greater try tightning and cleaning connections and then recheck, if still high than replace it. Check the length of the cable running from your solonoid to the starter for any frays or bare wire. I had an 84 that that cable had grounded out to the frame rail, same indications you are having. If this cable is frayed or damaged in any way wrap it in tape long enough to get to the parts house. Clean all battery positive cable connections and tighten them. If this is still not working than the possibilities for another wire causing a load on the battery all the time are endless. Don't worry though help is just a post away.

Take a jumper wire from the + post of the battery to the "S" terminal of the starter solenoid.
See if that turns the starter over.
If it still sparks, tap your starter a few times, and try starting again.
If nothing, come back here and tell us.

Dennis, I think you meant the "S" terminal.

Hey your starter might be stuck in the flywheel. Put the truck in gear and rock it back and forth, this may free it up.

I have tried going past solenoid it just shorts 'n' sparks,
this wire came loose from the engine trying to start,I ve had
it(starter) get stuck before thats different, the two ground wires
at the front turn signals are loose, but I never tightened them
down when I put on another grill,.theres no frayed wires
visible, what about fuses?? the cylinder glass fuses are fine,
I dont know about the big one though..

I suggest pulling the starter and bench testing it > Lubing the bendix on it.
It may even be the starter drive that is causing the problem.
