Pulling C-6 Auto?

got my motor out and was wondering if the transfercase needs to pull to get the tranny out. I have the entire front clip off and would like to pull it out from the front, but it seems the transfer case needs to be pulled before I can do it. Or should I just take the crossmember off and pull it out that way? Also, the bellhousing it busted from when I got the truck. Can this be fixed on an automatic? Thanks!

Bell-housing

There are some welders that can weld aluminium very well and there are some that should Never be near one.

Look around locally for a fabrication shop ...for a guy with experience doing this.

the C6 bellhousing is a one piece transmission. Other than welding the broken piece back in it's exact spot, yer looking at swapping the tranny out. the C6 can be removed with the front clip off, but you'll have to leave the tcase adapter on the crossmember, but loosen the bolts a bit to allow some movement. Which means another C6 has to be a 4x4 type.

Where can I get one? Also, doesn't the tcase come right off? What do you mean loosen the bolts?

the tailshaft from the tranny goes through the adapter(the short piece bolted to the rear crossmember w/the shifter) and fits into the tcase. loosening the adapters bolts in the crossmember allows you to wiggle the tranny free from the tcase without it falling off the crossmember, thus wedging itself. Leaving them tight means the tranny has to move exactly straight forward which may interfere with the engine mounts. This is why you leave those bolts in with the nuts threaded out to the end of the bolts. Dropping the entire crossmember is a royal PITA. Sliding the tranny forward and out thru the engine compartment is easiest with the help of a strap and cherrypicker. Dropping the tcase isn't bad, but more time consuming, but less consuming if taking the front clip off. But since you already have that removed...

Any fullsize 4x4 from 73-79 with the same engine series as yours will have a C6 automatic that will swap.
