I just bought a 88 f250 7.3 diesel with 122k on it, the passenger side front manual hub fels like it is engaging when I put it in four wheel but it doesn't go in. The truck can go in reverse no problem in four wheel but that wheel is not engaging. I was told if it's the hub or ven if it's stripped it's no big deal but maybe this happened to someone here. Also there is a broken glow plug and the truck has some trouble starting when it's cold, is it possible that replacing just that one plug will cure it or do I need the whole set? After the truck is started once it fires right up so it must be the plug but this is a little new to me. Sorry for the long message and thanks for the site. it's great!

Quick check for glow plugs is with just a 12 volt test light, a cheap one works great. With key off hook the clip to the positive post of the battery pull the wires off the glow plugs and touch the tip to the top of the plug "NOT THE HEX HEAD PART". If it lights up it's good if not it's bad. One will not make a hard start. Two will have a tendency to and four get ready to kill the starter. I allways changed them in sets but I was working for Jew Haul at the time. I would go to the International parts counter and also get the little fuel return check valve for the top of the filter. It's just a little brass fitting that has a small rubber hose that returns to your tank. You can pull it out and look through it and see if it's bad but for the cost it's an easy fix. When they go out it allows the fuel in the filter to drain back to the tank and it'll fire and run for a couple of seconds then dye and then crankedy crank.
