I've seen many posts on this topic. I have a 06 KING RANCH 5.4 that has 4000 miles on it. When I push down hard on the gas pedal, it takes forever to react and start accelerating. Gas miliage is around 12 miles per gallon city. Someone on the forum had their truck re flashed at the Dealer which improved the acceleration. What does the dealer do to reflash a truck and what can I expect.
What the dealer does is connect a laptop computer to your diagnostic port underneath the dashboard ,drivers side .The dealer will checkout your program and make any necessary changes.Make sure your axle ratio and tire size is entered correctly because mine was not,Also make sure your vehicle is test driven or dyno'ed before you receive it.
I frequently use a rental vehicle for work and my truck will sit still for a week at the time. I noticed that my mileage was pathetic and here is what I figured out happened. My battery drained while I let it sit still for a week, I jumped it off and immediately pulled a trailer with it. It seemingly readjusted its driving habits while the trailer was being pulled. To correct this, I disconnected the battery and left it disconnected for a little while. When I hooked it back up, I drove the truck and really babied it, my gas mileage returned to normal after that.
The moral of my little story was try disconnecting the battery and seeing if you have any changes, before taking it to the shop.
Keep in mind that your accelerator is now computer controlled, not the tried and true cable type arrangement. There is a big lag time in acceration due to the "new technology".
Bring back cables and points, kill the computers!
Will the flashing improve on the acceleration delay?
If you have a delay,There is a problem,My f-150 has the "drive by wire Throttle cable" and I don"t have a delay.Could it be corrected by a reflash? It's possible.I would see the dealer and let them try to rectify the acceleration delay.Just my opinion and good luck.
I think part of the delay is the driver. I can drive my dad's new 2006 F150, and I dont notice any delay. Yet when my brother drives it, he does notice it.
