I have been trouble-shooting a problem on my '92 E-150 van (5.0L) for a while. It has been overheating and so I began the process of replacing all of the hoses since it looks like they have never been replaced and I replaced the thermistat. I also changed out the heater core a few months ago. My water pump is about 3 years old so i don't think its problem. I could be wrong. After putting it all together I found a leak coming from the throttle body. Upon examining this I noticed there is a small hose that Tees off one of the heater hoses that goes into the throttle body. Where the coolant goes from there I have no idea but coolant is pissing out a small hole on the throttle body just below where the coolant goes in. Any clues how to fix this? Can I just plug it up? But wait theres more. My temp gage is still running hot and don't have any better way to describe it but my cooling system jitters. Like coolant is stopping and flowing suddenly. Maybe its time for a new radiator. I hope there isn't something more serious going on.
You have air in the cooling system. The leak at the throttle body doesn't let the system pressurize so the air can't escape. I'm not quite sure I understand about where it's at though... Post some pics so we can see what's going on.
A leak will drastically effect your cooling becaue it does not let the system come up to pressure. I would plug that small hose first and see how it cools.
Besides that, if you have a clutch fan, it might be the thing that is bad.
Thanks for the reply guys. I have plugged the leak. From what i could see the coolant that enters the throttle body from a hose that comes off the temp sending unit. It then exits through another hose just a few inches below that and goes back to the temp sending unit. Look like just a little loop so another sensor or something can pick it up. Probably something for emmision control since its right next to the EGR valve. I think its all good from here.
