Towing Capacity
I just bought the truck 3 weeks ago and I use it everyday. I use it for work hauling lawnmowers and such, I work for a landscaper. Im still getting used to the manual transmission, this being my first manual to ever drive. Its not a fast truck with alot of power but it doesnt need to be. I love the 21 mpg gas mileage. My truck has 110,000 miles and its a single cab. I paid $3,650. It has a busted windshield caused by something hitting the roof. And it needs new tires. I think I got a pretty good deal, what cha think?
I need to change the oil so I also need to know if it is an ohc or a dohc. Im new to this so dont flame me! lol

Well you likely have the 2.3L, if it's a 4 banger engine.
Your owners manual will have the tow rating listed in it.
If you don't have a owners manual, look in a salvage yard for one in a glove box, they can often behad for free.
If you want to down load one, go to Motorcrafts web site here & enter your vehicle info. http://www.motorcraftservice.com/vdi...&menuindex1=50

Thx for the welcome. I enjoy reading this website.
I dont think ur link is working. I clicked on it and it said error.
I was also wondering the shift points for my truck. I want to know exactly when to shift so I can keep my tranny for a long time.
To allow the 2.3L four banger to get outta it's own way, you're gonna have to rev it pretty good. It's a stout little engine, don't worry about giving it some RPMs.
Once you get the hang of driving the stick, this is a really easy truck to drive. And the 2.3L will run practically forever if you maintain it properly. Good truck.

The link worked before I posted it, but it seems it has some kind of timer on it that expires.
SO, If you need to download a owners manual, go to the My Ford or Motorcraft site & register, log on, then go to Motorcrafts Technical page & you should be able to print a copy of the owners manual for your ride.
In it will be the towing capacity for your engine tranny combo.
With a 4 banger it isn't going to be much though.
In 99 the 2.5L 4 banger ranged from 1,440 to 2,240 lbs for the trailer weight, depending on if it was regular or super cab & straight or auto tranny & what the rear axle ratio was.
The 99 2.5L 4x2 regular cab with 4.10 rear end & auto tranny was rated to tug the most, a 2,240 lb trailer.
2.5L regular cab 4x2 manual tranny with 3.73 or 4.10 were rated to tow a 1,600 lb trailer, the super cabs with the same rear ends only a 1,440 lb trailer.
But that was in 99, the figures may be slightly different for your 01 model, but probably not by much.
So this should get you in the ball park.

Sorry for the late post. So busy with work and school. I work for a landscaper 25+ hours a week after going to highschool full time. AND im starting up my own landscaping business AND on top of that im starting a new vending business with my dad. While being 17 and having my own place with my g/f. So to say the least, im a busy man.
But thx alot for the help, I really appreciate it.

Watch that tongue weight and you could be fine with even more. Balance the load(be it vending machine or w/e) on the axle of the trailer, and don't nail the gas/hammer the brakes/ brake heavily on a hill and you could get away with maybe even a couple hundred more lbs.
I've pulled an 18' stratos fiberglass bass boat with it w/o much of a hickup!
