Once the "Search" engine is up and running again (rumor has it that it will be up after the weekend), you can look at past posts. There are quite a few.
But I think the bottom line was that a person is better off selling the original truck and buying an existing 4x4, unless swapping frames is easy for you and it's something you have your heart set on.
Swapping frames is definitely the way to go. I've seen very few mods to the exsisting frame that look good, much less are safe to operate.
I put a 1973 F250 4x4 Highboy frame under my 1970 F250 Camper special 2 wheel drive body. Pretty much a bolt on mod, you will have to consider changing Tranny's(if automatic) and steering columns( I pieced together the original 2wd with the 4wd to keep it looking original). And you may loose gas tank capacity if you have frame mounted fuel tanks(my camper special tank was removed in favor of a transfer case). All in all not too difficult for the home mechanic, you will need a lifting device for the front clip, cab and bed, or four strong buddies will work just as well.
Good luck on your conversion and if you have any specific questions let me know.
