A buddy of mine has a '97 or '98 F150 with the 4.6 V8. He bought a Superchips chip off of ebay and he's been having problems ever since. I think it may be the chip causing the problem, but in case I'm wrong heres what happened: He went to have his truck inspected and they told him his engine was misfiring, one of his O2 sensors were bad, and not much else. I used my X-cal2 and pulled:
Where should he look for this sensor? What are some things he can do to remedy the problem? He's not too familiar with his truck (neither am I) so we need all the help we can get.
I think bank 1 is the passenger side, and sensor 1 is the upstream sensor before the cats. I am not positive on that tho. Someone will be along if I'm not correct.
skilife17, Thanks atleast now I know where to look.
tkondro, I don't think he did, that's why I think the chip is causing the problem. Since he bought it on ebay, I think we may have a hard time getting help from Superchips, but it's worth a shot.
I guess I should just ask if it is a chip or a programmer, cause the chip if I recall right you need to get a number off of the computer to do it right.
If its the chip he should be able to check by removing it & resetting the ecu. If the code doesn't come back its the chip. You muct have a chip programmed to your ecu. The code is on the ecu & in the door pillar. It will say calibration on the sticker

They replaced mine under warrenty.

He just bought the chip off of ebay and didn't have it reprogrammed to his truck. That's the first thing I suspected, but it may also be the whole condensation issue that you mentioned. I have to meet up with him, so I'll get to the bottom of it.

It's a chip, but I think that's where I'll start because he didn't have too many issues with it until some of his friends put the chip in. Even then, he mentioned that they put something else under the hood in addition to the chip. I think it may have been one of those $25 resistors than just dump more fuel into the engine. I haven't seen the whole setup, all he did was describe it to me. We'll see where this goes.....
