These models seem to get a bad rap for some reason.
To me they are an excellent value (if you don't need the extra 50 or so hp from the 5.4) and so far I am getting much, much better gas mileage than I got with my '02 F250 (6 spd, 5.4). The difference in ride is simply night and day and I am also liking the auto. trans., the first one I've ever owned.
I have the 4x4 scab in Darkstone and so far I love everything about this truck including the STX wheels that also seem to get a bad rap. I also like the body colored bumpers that come with the STX. I may be wrong, but I think the only other model that comes this way is the FX4?
I have made a few trips with my trailer fully loaded (keep in mind it's a small (5x8) and I load it with only 1,200-1,500 lbs) and I wouldn't even know it was behind me.
The only mod I have made (and will make ever) is installing a flowmaster 70 series and, as I stated, I am way more than happy with everything from style, ride, power, towing.......everything!
I was just wondering why these models seem to get overlooked when discussing F150s?
STX are fine, but you don't get any of the options. I like my power windos and locks and some of the other little things that come with. I do like the STX price tag compared to my XLT. ha ha
Ha you say useless I say helpfull. There's a reason why people don't buy STX and go with the high trim trucks. If I wanted a work truck I would have bought a XL and not a XLT.
I went with the stx to avoid power windows, carpet, shift on the fly and other useless ammenities. it's a great bargain for a sharp looking truck
Lack of carpet is another thing I like about it. Carpet holds water forever where the vinyl cleans quick and easy. The power locks I kind of like, however I locked my keys on my 250 (had pw, pl) at least 5 times in the 4 years I owned it.
I can see why some like the features of the XLTs and other "nicer" models, but mine works fine for me.
yup the only thing mine needs is power locks, but then again it don't hurt 2 walk my big butt around the truck 2 let some 1 in!! i find that y'all r saying that u don't have carpet! i do and mine is a 2005 stx, i told the sales guy that i wanted the mat but he said that they only ordered carpet in all trucks above the xl. but i still like the truck!!
I prefer the FX4's, and the 4X4 STX's, in that order. Ive head people complain about the lack of power in the STX's 4.6l engine, and bad gas millage, but if you say otherwise....
I like the manual transfer case for the 4X4 STX that is mounted on the floor, and I really like the body style and price too. But if given the choice, I'd go with the FX4 because of the bigger engine(5.4l V8) and the flow-through center console option with the center console gear shifter. The overhead rail storage is a plus, too. Can you get that added on the STX? I also like the gauge cluster fot the FX4 better.
I have an 05 4x4 STX regcab in darkstone, I love it! It had absolutely everything I wanted (4x4, V8, 6 disc, cruise control, extra space, easy to clean the inside, and manual shifter for the 4x4) and it was at a great price too (paid 19 for it last July brand new). The only mods I've made so far have been an AIRAID cold air intake, TBS (which does make a difference, especially on throttle responce) and LINEX bed liner. It is a shame that they didnt offer it with the 5.4, but I'm not hauling a horse trailer everyday. On the flip side though I went 200 miles off of llittle less than half a tank of gas this week with city driving! Only other complaint is no manual tranny, but, thats across the board for trucks (with the exception of the 4.2)
i have an 06 stx and it came from the dealer with all power accs and the vinyl floor mat and as far as gas mileage my avg is 18 mpg with the 4.6 1300 miles so far and no problems yet except the motor ticks at idle but what i have been told this is normal what can i say nobody builds motors like they use to
what can i say nobody builds motors like they use to
AND thank God for that. I remember when 60k miles meant the motor was no longer worth messing with. And forget the trans and drive train. Its a great thing they dont
